This oversized vintage wall hanging features five authentic hand-stitched Guna (Kuna) mola textiles from Panama, beautifully mounted on natural burlap in a custom wood frame. Together, they create a dramatic vertical display measuring over 6½ feet tall.
Molas are created using the traditional reverse appliqué technique, where multiple layers of fabric are carefully cut and stitched by hand to reveal intricate patterns and imagery. Originally made as decorative panels for traditional Guna garments, they have become one of the most celebrated forms of Indigenous textile art.
What first caught my eye about this piece was the vibrant orange mola at its center. Most vintage molas feature deeper backgrounds such as burgundy, navy, or black, making this bright central panel an unexpected and beautiful focal point.
Whether displayed in an entryway, stairwell, hallway, or living space, this is the kind of piece that immediately draws attention while bringing warmth, color, and history into a home.
