Mid-19th Century Ambrotype Photograph of Baby in Case (c. 1855–1865)

A larger-format ambrotype portrait of a baby, dating to the mid-1800s. The image is housed in its original case with gilt matting, though the case lid has detached. Ambrotypes were produced on glass, giving them a unique semi-translucent quality compared to daguerreotypes or tintypes. A poignant example of early photography and family portraiture.

Condition: Case lid detached; wear consistent with age; surface shows some marks but image retains clarity.
