Late 20th Century Pende Polychrome Carved Wood Figural Panel – DR Congo – 32"

A striking large-scale carved wood panel attributed to the Pende artistic tradition of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Hand-carved from solid wood and decorated with earthy red, black, ochre, and natural tones, the panel features a highly stylized human face surrounded by bold geometric patterning. Diamond motifs, zigzag carving, and strong symmetrical forms give the piece exceptional visual presence.

The Pende are known for expressive masks, sculpture, and carved architectural elements. Similar carved panels are documented within Pende artistic traditions, though without provenance confirming ceremonial use or a precise original context, this example is being offered as a decorative/figural Pende panel rather than as a documented ritual object.

Based on style and construction, this piece is best described as Late 20th Century.

A wonderful statement piece for an eclectic interior, global collection, library, or gallery wall.
